"You want me to do what?" Edy said for the second time. Edy was tidying up her house, which is something she told Bizzy made her feel peaceful. "I like it when it's ordered. It makes my heart sing." She fluffed up her dolphin-jumping-over-a-wave pillow. Bizzy liked those pillows the best. Edy loved dolphins.
"Ask Coz to come here because you're thinking of having some renovations done, and you want to see if you can even have them done, before you bring in an--"
"Architect." Edy finished the word.
"Right," Bizzy thought her idea brilliant.
"No," Edy said.
"Why?"
"Bizzy--"
"I'm just trying to get him here, so I can talk to him, or even more so that Jacko can speak to him."
"Does Jacko know?" Edy now plumped up her crab pillow. She had only one of those, Bizzy noted, but they both agreed that it had the most detail. "Does he?"
"Of course he doesn't know."
"I don't blame Jacko for being mad--"
"He's mad?" Bizzy asked.
"You didn't notice last night?"
"No, I just noticed he went all quiet. Went and worked on some photos later."
"You are not always super perceptive."
Bizzy laughed at that. "That's what my mom always says to my father."
"Guess you get it from him." Edy worked extra hard on her lobster pillow whose stuffing just didn't want to plump. "I guess Maxine here doesn't want to plump anymore."
"You named your pillows?" Bizzy gave her the "I'm not the only nut jobâ look.
"Every last one of them. I think when you name it, it means something to you." Edy smiled at her collection of pillows. They all stayed plumped in their respective places on the sofas and chairs, except for Maxine the lobster, who immediately began to collapse.
"I'll ask Jacko what's going on with him. Don't you think, though, he could just tell me?"
"Mmm hmmm." She now put all the little knick-knacks on her counter in order.
"Remember Dan? He didn't always like to tell you stuff. You had to pry it out of him."
Bizzy nodded and sighed. "Okay. Will you think about calling Coz?"
"I think I'll go visit him. You want to drive me?"
"Sure, but..."
"You have to drive me." Bizzy hated to drive, and Edy knew Bizzy's uneasiness with driving stemmed from Dan's death in a car accident. It had taken Bizzy a long time even to get behind the wheel, never mind taking a trip down to the town grocery store.
"When do you want to go?"
"The first thing I'm going to do is call and see if he's there."
"Wicked smaht," Bizzy said, using the classic Boston expression with her best âSouthieâ accent.
Edy clicked her tongue. "You know it. You have to do me a favor, though, and find out what's going on with Jacko."
"I will." Edy gave her a look. "I will. I promise. Sometimes he can get so sensitive."
Edy picked up her landline telephone, pulled the local telephone directory from a bunch of menus and opened it to the beginning.
She dialed the number and then waited. Bizzy wondered why Edy kept her land line. At first, she said it was because she didn't always get a signal on her cell phone.
